What are SMPA’s sources of income? There are only two, dues from members and interest on bank accounts.
What is the significance of the blue ADT signs?
The signs, as shown in the "patrols" section of this site, mark the protected addresses of members. Any ADT signs without the “SMPA ARMED PATROL” bow-ties signify ADT alarm clients, not SMPA members.
How are you affiliated with ADT?
We are not affiliated with them, other than the fact that they are the patrol service provider from whom we contract for service with SMPA dues. Basically, SMPA is a large customer of ADT.
I already pay ADT every month. I don’t need SMPA, do I?
If you have an account with ADT outside of SMPA, it is for alarm service only. The patrol response service is not paid by that bill. We have an agreement that ADT will not compete with us for patrol clients in the area, so you cannot enroll in ADT’s patrol services except through SMPA.
How does SMPA work with my alarm?
You don’t need an alarm to join SMPA. However, if you do have a monitored alarm, ADT’s SMPA-assigned officers will respond the same way ADT patrol officers handle alarms anywhere else. They will conduct a perimeter check, search for signs of forced entry to your residence, ensure anyone they encounter on the property is authorized to be there, and contact you in case of emergency. Although this service is not part of the initial SMPA mission of crime deterrence in the neighborhood, it is done as a courtesy to SMPA members. They can handle your alarm in place of the police, who will charge hundreds of dollars after a few false alarms in a year.

How many members are there in SMPA?
The membership is constantly fluctuating as members move in and out of the neighborhood. It is generally in the vicinity of 1000 members. If more residents were members, more security service could be afforded and annual dues could be reduced.
